Industry analytics firm, OpenVault has completed its year-on-year comparisons of this year’s second quarter, and found that average broadband use in Europe is growing at a significantly slower pace than in the United States.
According to the data, average cable broadband use per household in Europe grew at a rate of 19.5 per cent during the 12 months ended June 30, 2018, compared to an average of 31 per cent in the United States during the same time period. Moreover, Europe’s 0.46 percentage of households using greater than 1 terabit per month (or ‘power users’) – is less than one-fifth of the 2.5 percentage of power users in the United States.
Amongst other findings, the company found that household broadband usage growth continues to grow at an annual rate of more than 30 per cent, but usage-based billing can enable cable telecommunications providers to reduce associated strain on their networks and generate incremental revenues.
OpenVault noted that average usage per household as of June 30, 2018 was 226.4G, up slightly from Q1 2018. When compared with results from June 30, 2017, the data demonstrated a year-on-year average usage growth of 31.3 per cent, from 172.4 to 226.4G per household.
