Semiconductor IC developer GigPeak, formerly GigOptix, is now sampling the GX32222, a 32Gb/s dual-channel linear trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) for use in high-speed optical receiver modules operating at 100Gb/s, 200Gb/s and beyond.
Ovum projects that 100G port shipments will continue growing with accelerated compound annual growth rate of 25–30 per cent over the next four years till 2020, while being augmented with next generations of higher-speed coherent single wavelength ports, for both line cards and pluggable modules.
The GX32222 incorporates two signal paths for I and Q channels, to enable its use in coherent receiver optical subassembly (ROSA) designs. The high-performance, low power, and compact design of the GX32222 are ideally suited to small form factors like CFP2 and CFP4.
Coming in die form, measuring 1.562mm x 1.387m, the GX32222 TIA is cost-competitive with alternative products on the market, the company claims.
“The introduction of this product substantiates our already well-accepted GPPO connectorised and SMT drivers for 100Gb/s and 200Gb/s applications, allowing us to provide our customers with ICs for transmit and receive applications,” commented Dr. Koichi Murata, senior director of marketing for telecom products at GigPeak.
Key features of the GX32222 TIA include an adjustable frequency range, supporting 28Gb/s to 32Gb/s, low power consumption of 515mW at 3.3V, differential gain better than 7,000Ω and linear gain over 30dB of dynamic range, with internal automatic gain control. The device also features output voltage control, peak detection, and shutdown mode.
The GX32222 is now available for general sampling, following the successful completion of initial sampling by selected key customers.
