Anritsu has launched the BERTWave MP2100B, an all-in-one test set with integrated bit error-rate tester (BERT) and sampling oscilloscope, designed for testing optical modules in research and production environments.
The MP2100B is the successor to the company’s popular MP2100A. Supporting up to four channels rather than two, the instrument provides more efficient evaluation of multichannel optical modules.
As demand for high-speed transmission technologies grows, so comes the need to assure the integrity of signals passing via these high-speed devices. The newly developed BERTWave MP2100B supports simultaneous BER measurements and eye pattern analyses, and so a single MP2100B set can measure all the parameters required for evaluating optical modules and optical devices used by optical communication systems.
Unlike conventional systems that require two separate measurement instruments to perform these tests, just one MP2100B will support all the necessary test requirements, helping cut equipment costs by as much as 40 per cent, the company asserts.
In addition, the MP2100B built-in BERT can be upgraded to four channels for simultaneous BER measurements of multichannel optical modules, such as QSFP+, cutting measurement times by up to 80 per cent compared to legacy models.
To support the faster measurement speeds expected by optical module and device manufacturers, the instrument supports a new Fast Sampling Mode with speeds up to 150,000 samples per second, enabling it to perform eye pattern analyses up to 1.5 times faster than legacy models.
An optical switch and optical attenuator are also now available as optional accessories to create a fully featured system for evaluating multichannel optical modules and optical devices.
