Ciena’s GeoMesh Extreme open network architecture with high-density 100G transponders has been selected to enhance two submarine networks in the Caucasus and Latin America regions.

As sole owner of the Black Sea submarine cable, Caucasus Online provides critical services in regional communications, acting as a major gateway for internet traffic from Europe to South Caucasus and the Caspian region.

EATONTOWN, NEW JERSEY – TE SubCom has announced that the final splice of the Hawaiki Submarine Cable has been made and the system is on schedule to be in service in June 2018. 

Seaborn Networks has selected Xtera’s C+L band design for its ARBR submarine fibre optic cable system, which connects Argentina and Brazil.

Construction has now officially commenced on the Japan-Guam-Australia (JGA) 9,500km undersea fibre optic cable system.

JGA is being co-built by Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN), part of Nokia and the NEC Corporation. The JGA South (JGA-S) segment between Sydney, Australia and Piti, Guam, is a consortium cable, including AARNet, Google and RTI-C, whilst the JGA North (JGA-N) segment which runs between the Minami-Boso, Japan and Piti, Guam, is a private cable with RTI-C as the sole purchaser.

Brazil's national service provider, Eletronet, has selected Seaborn Networks’ international submarine fibre-optic cable system, Seabras-1, to provide Tier 1 dedicated internet access in Brazil.

DUBLIN, IRELAND –  Aqua Comms, the operator of Ireland’s first dedicated subsea fibre-optic network interconnecting New York, Dublin and London, announces today that Hurricane Electric has activated one 100G waves of high capacity connectivity between New York and Dublin on Aqua Comms’ America Europe Connect-1 (AEC-1) subsea cable system. 

Subsea fibre optic solutions provider, Xtera is partnering with ADVA in order to develop the capacity and reach of the open networking solutions supplier’s optical transport products.  ADVA will license Xtera’s Raman technology for use in both unrepeatered and terrestrial environments.

SUNNYVALE, CALIFORNIA AND GERMANY – Infinera and Hetzner Online have announced the deployment of the Infinera XTS-3300 to extend Hetzner Online’s data centre business into Finland. The XTS-3300 is designed to be the industry’s easiest to use, compact, high-performance subsea network solution, enabling internet content providers (ICPs) like Hetzner Online to quickly deploy low-latency subsea networks.

HANOVER, MD – Sweden’s Eastern Light, a company building a series of new, international, submarine fiber-optic cable routes in northern Europe, has selected Ciena’s (NYSE: CIEN) GeoMesh solution to help meet the fast-growing demand for long-haul dark fiber in the region. The new network will have the potential for significant capacity increases, helping to fuel the Nordic and global data center market.

HONOLULU, USA – Telstra announced at the PTC conference in Hawaii that it has entered into agreements to invest in two new international subsea cable systems that will connect Hong Kong and the west coast of the United States.

The first investment will see Telstra partner to build the new Hong Kong Americas (HKA) cable that will connect Hong Kong to the US. Telstra will invest in a half fibre pair. Once completed, the HKA cable will help meet the increasing demand for connectivity between Greater China, ASEAN and the US.
